Hulk - Winter Guard,
Darkstar and The Winter Guard.
(Clayton Henry)
Агенты Атласа (Agents of Atlas).
*offtop*
The Red Guardian's shield is supposed to be crest from the coast of arms. He serves the Russian Federation; I thought it was time that he stood out a little more. We explain why he has a different shield in the book.
The goal is to treat these characters with respect and integrity, while creating something epic and grand.
The Winter Guard should be its own team - not the Russian version of the Avengers.
Thank you for talking about the book. Again, I hope you enjoy it.
We really hope, you would do it without any flaws. Cause the idea of Russian superheroes is pretty cool but should be realized properly
i think this new shield is way better then the previous one. maybe next time artists would draw real russian coat of arms, instead of this one.

It is not exact, of course, but it is close.
It is stylized for ease of illustration - the same way the costumes of Captain Britain, Captain America, and Union Jack are.
We reduced the colors on it so that it wouldn't clash, while keeping the spirit of the original shield.
Even without a shield he doesn't quite look Russian (mostly because of the dominance of the black color in his costume, which makes him look badass though), but the 'Red Star' shield did a fair job of balancing his image as a Russian patriotic superhero. I wouldn't say the same about the new one.
Would you prefer the shield were:
1: gold design and red background
2. imperial black design and red background

Silver on black?
black is just not Russian colour
I do not want to give anything away, but I think you will enjoy the direction that these characters take.
I often communicate with fans, because I think it is important to say 'hello'. My goal is to entertain you and keep you reading.
Sorry for the doubt, just for us in Russia a lot of pranksters. Still, the Big Bear looks like a terrible stereotype.))
But the shield of a Red Guardian looks much better than before. More work on the colors. You did the right thing, what with this issue immediately appealed to us.
No, he looks awesome as hell.
Ursa Major, [Balshoy Medvyed] the Big Bear looking character, is very popular here in the states. At first, he does seem like a stereotype. My goal as a writer is to break free of that. He has one absolutely glorious moment in the first issue.
the right pronounciation is bOlshoy
NORTH WILL RISE AGEN
Sounds great. By the way, mr. Gallaher, I have heard, that there is a woman inside Crimson Dynamo's armor, which is kinda cool. How are you going to handle this new Dynamo character?
That's a matter of translation, I think.
His name is actually supposed to be "Balshoy Medvyed" in Russian. I always imagine that he tolerates being called Ursa by Americans because his name is "Major Mikhail Uriokovitch Ursus."
I used the Marvel.Com site for that spelling. I should have translated it better. My apologies.
No new characters and no other nationalities. Let me get Russia correct first.
But, you will see plenty of older characters as we strengthen the Winter Guard's connection to the Marvel Universe.
Galina is awesome. But, I don't want to spoil it.
True. There are many nationalities in America too. But, we are still part of the United States.
On legal forms here in New York, the question is often asked 'what is you nationality / ethnic group' - but New York is different ;-)
I am really glad to hear that)
Citizenship
Dual citizenship in Belarus and Russia
Place of Birth
Minsk, Byelorussia
As for "other nations" the guys there most probably talked about the ethnic minorities and probably the analogues of your First Nations- Siberian tribes like the Chukchi etc (BTW, a cool way to handwave\explain Ursa Major's (Big Bear's) weird patronymics- make his father come from some all-but-forgotten Siberian tribe (hense weird non-Russian patronymic) and PROBABLY that gives the wonderful option to change the origin of his powers- like tie him to the legacy of shamans and say that he only THOUGHT he was a mutie but his powers have magical origin ("Big Bear" curse). Make him a genuine werebear from Eastern Siberia! That also gives the opportunity to explore the ethnic angle the fans there are asking about.
That Siberian tribe can be fully fictional (incorporating some elements from existing tribes) so no real ethnic minority gets offended\pissed off.
As for Darkstar I, I've already proposed a handwave with "Petrovna" being a patronymic turned into nickname by her Red Room colleagues (she was adopted by Piotr (Peter) Phobos so it's natural that she has Petrovna as patronymic) and then turned into sort of the second codename.
The bear-were in the movie was kinda hot, so no wonder a creature like that can seduce a human woman... and father a werebear with weird patronymic and surname as legacy along with powers. Since Soviet society was told to believe that science>>>>magic, little Misha's mother (and local authorities) thought he was a mutie and not magical werebear.
Though Uriok really sounds like a name of some tribal shaman from Altay, and given that the character in question was born in Blagoveshchensk, geographically it fits (and speaking about his childhood, the tribal origin fits even more).
By the way if you'll decide to use any russian words or expressions or names or city names - anything in russian - we can give you the correct spelling and grammar (russian letters or english transcription). The problem is many american comic book writers use imaginary pseudo-russian words and names - sometimes it's fun but most time it's weird and gives russian reader the "facepalm" expression.
We strive to feel genuine. As I mentioned, Steve Ellis used to live in Russia, so that is a big help. We spend the days playing Nogu Svelo and Zimov'e Zverey while we work on the art and the script.
You may try listen Aria, Alisa, DDT, Krematori and other "Russian Rock". For better seen of...mmm...problem.
may try to listen to

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that thanks to your feedback, we changed the colors Red Guardian's shield. I can't say much more beyond that. We did look at ALL of Russian history and heraldry in choosing the colors - and I'm very happy with it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys think of the book when it hits stores.
Thanks,
David
